Food Traceability ERP Integration: Separate Product Scope from Lot History
Design an ERP handoff for reviewed classifications, versioned specifications, stable source-lot identities, and event evidence.
Define the workflow and its evidence
Use explicit review states: pending, reviewed, and needs clarification. Store specification revision, candidate category, evidence, reviewer, and date. A Boolean collapsing no match and not reviewed hides materially different states.
Define which product changes reopen review. Retain previous decisions with historical transactions; reclassification should not mutate old receipts.
Work through a concrete handoff
Keep ERP item IDs, supplier IDs, lot identities, source locations, and document references distinct. Human-readable names change and make poor join keys.
One incoming lot can split across several outbound lines. Test actual quantity relationships independently from inventory balances: totals can be correct while lineage is broken.
Test the failure before scaling
Validate response bodies even after HTTP 200. An error payload, timeout, or malformed result should retain the previous reviewed decision and create retryable work.
Attach the specification revision to each job. If the item changes while the request runs, prevent an older result from updating the newer specification.
- Unmatched is distinct from reviewed exclusion.
- Stale jobs cannot overwrite new specifications.
- Historical records survive reclassification.
Where FoodChainAPI fits
FoodChainAPI suggests candidate Food Traceability List categories from product descriptions. Save the reviewed result beside the product specification; a category match does not establish exemptions, complete operational records, or certify compliance.
Put the product review into practice
Start with a candidate category in the free FTL lookup. Check product form and exemptions against FDA sources, then save the evidence behind your decision.
