Chrome: check a food and find guides
Enter a food name or a traceability question in the popup. See category candidates, exclusions to review, and relevant articles. This version installs manually; it has not been listed in the Chrome Web Store.
Download Chrome extension- Download and unzip the extension into a folder you will keep.
- Open
chrome://extensionsand enable Developer mode. - Choose Load unpacked and select the extracted folder containing manifest.json.
- Pin FoodChainAPI and open the popup to search.
The extension sends the text you submit to foodchainapi.com. It does not read your tabs, browsing history, or page contents, and does not store your searches. Extension privacy details.
ChatGPT: a custom read-only MCP app
Use a ChatGPT account or workspace that allows custom MCP apps. Availability and administrator controls depend on your plan. This is a custom integration; FoodChainAPI is not claiming a listing in the ChatGPT app directory.
- Enable developer mode under the settings available to your account or workspace.
- In Apps, create a custom app named FoodChainAPI and enter the MCP endpoint below.
- Choose no authentication, scan the tools, and create the app.
- Enable FoodChainAPI in a conversation and ask it to search for a food or traceability guide.
Claude: a custom remote connector
- Open the Connectors area in Claude's customization settings. For a managed workspace, an owner may need to add the connector first.
- Add a custom web connector named FoodChainAPI using the endpoint below.
- Review the detected settings and select No sign in.
- Enable the connector in your conversation and try one of the prompts below.

If a connection fails
Confirm the endpoint ends with /mcp, your account permits custom integrations, and no authentication is selected. Refresh the tool list after an update. If your plan does not provide custom MCP access, use the web lookup and guides.
A candidate match is not an exemption or compliance determination. Verify product form, ingredients, exemptions, and activities against current FDA sources. The tools do not access your ERP, collect traceability records, or issue compliance certificates. REST API reference.
